Gomkora Tsechu

Gom Kora is a small Lhakhang in the north of Trashigang about 21 km away. The story of Gomphu Kora goes back to the 8th century AD. Legend has it that an evil spirit named Myongkhapa escaped from Samye in Tibet when Guru Padmasambhava, the progenitor of the Nyingma strand of Buddhism, was spreading the Dharma in the Himalayas.

Day 1
GAUWAHATI (India) to S/Jongkhar (Bhutan)

At Guwahati International Airport, you will be received by the representative of Bhutan Khenphel Delek Tours and Travels. After meeting the guide and driver, we will drive to one of the restaurants in Guwahati for lunch and then we will drive to Samdrup Jongkhar. Night at Samdrup Jongkhar Hotel.

Day 2
S/Jongkhar to Trashigang

After breakfast drive to Trashigang which takes almost 7hrs. Visit hand loom (weaving center) in Khaling and then visit the blind school. Drive through the oldest college of Bhutan, Sherabtse College and then to Trashigang.

Trashigang is the central market for high land people and here people speak Sharchop instead of Dzongkha.

Day 3
Trashigang to Radhi

Visit the Rangjung Yozerchholing Lhakhang and Khardung Anim Dratshang (where young girls and women are perusing the religious goals). Have picnic lunch and overnight stay at Trashigang Hotel.

Day 4
Trashigang to Trashi Yangtse

Drive to Trashi Yantshi and visit Chorten Kora, old Trashi Yangtse Dzong with a picnic lunch. Today over night will be at Gomphu Kora either camp or at hotel. After our early dinner we will visit Gomphu Kora Lhakhang, where we will see people circumbulating the Lhakhang and the big rock with recitation or prayers and some even signing.

Day 5
Gomphu Kora Festival.

Enjoy whole day with the festival.

Day 6
Gomkora – Mongar.

Visit Drametse monastery – founded by Ani Choten Zangmo, Pema Lingpa’s granddaughter, who fled from Bumthang to escape a proposal of marriage from the local king. She stayed there and meditated, Drametse means the peak where there are no enemies.

Visit Tashichhoepheling Lhakhang at Ngtshang.

Day 7
Mongar – Bumthang.

Now drive to high land, on the way will stop in several places.

Day 8
Bumthang

Jambay Lhakhang: Oldest temple built by Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo in the 7th century to subdue the evil demoness.

Chakhar Lhakhang: visit Chakhar temple a short distance from Jambay temple.

Kurjay Lhakhang: The temple to the right was built by Minjur Tempa in 1652. It was built around the cave in which Guru Rinpoche meditated and left his body imprint.

Jakar Dzong: the fortress used as an administrative center and residence of monks.

Day 9
Bumthang – Punakha

We will drive to the formal capital of Bhutan until 1955, Punakha.

Trongsa Dzong – Trongsa Dzong was first found by Pema Lingpa in the 16th century and was flourished during the 17th century under Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel. Located on the hilltop, with Mangde Chu flowing below the valley. Trongsa Dzong was once used by the kings to rule the country and presently, before the prince gets on the throne, he take the post of Trongsa Penlopor or Governor.

Day 10
Punakha to Thimphu

Drive towards Thimphu and we will stop at Dochula Pass, a popular tourist spot that grants stunning 360-degree views of the Himalayas. Here, we have 108 Druk Wangyal Chortens build in the name of the Bhutanese soldiers killed in a 2003 battle with Assamese insurgents from India.

Day 11
Thimphu

Memorial Chorten – Build in the memory of Third Druk Gyalpo and is dedicated to World Peace.

Buddha View Point – Budha Dordenma sitting on the top of Kuensel Phodrang giving the stunning view of Thimphu city.

Motithang Takin Preserve – Visit the park where the national animal of Bhutan Taken is preserved.

Tashichho Dzong – Buddhist monastery and fortress on the western bank of the Wang Chu. The office of Druk Galpo, the head of Bhutan’s civil government.

Heritage Museum

Textile Museum

Semtokha Dzong – the oldest fortress in the kingdom.

Day 12
Thimphu to Paro

Taktsang Monastery (Tiger Nest): Your journey to Bhutan is incomplete if you miss the hiking to Taktsang Monastery. Located in the middle of the cliffy mountain, your pain will be washed as you reach the temple.

Kyichu Lhakhang – After lunch, we will visit the other oldest temple build along with Jambay Lhakhang in Bumthang.

Day 13
Depart Paro
