Black Nack Crane Festival

Respect for the endangered bird,  and to celebrate the arrival in Phobjikha valley. Locals join together to celebrate the festival. The festival includes cultural programs such as folk songs and dances (some with black-necked crane themes) and mask dances performed by the local people, crane dances and environmental conservation-themed dramas and songs by school children.

Day 1
Arrival in Paro

Welcome to the Land Of Thunder Dragon! You will be welcomed by one of our guides waiting outside the arrival hall.

National Memorial Chorten – built in 1974 to memorialize Jigme Dorji Wangchuk, the third ruler of Bhutan (1928-1972).

Buddha Point in the Kuenselphodrang Nature Park to see the 169-foot-tall bronze statue of the situated Buddha Dordenma.

Heritage Museum – Dedicated to connecting people to the Bhutanese rural past though exhibition of artefacts used in rural households.

Day 2
Thimphu

The morning will hike to Phajoding Monastery, one of the 5 endangered cultural monuments that need the most help in the world as listed in the World Monument Fund (WMF). Phajoding monastery was founded in 1224 by Phajo Drugom Zhipo (Buddhist saint) who spread the Drukpa Kagyupa sect of Buddhism in Bhutan.

Textile Museum – witnesses the art of traditional weaving.

Paper making factory – witnesses the art of paper making.

Day 3
Thimphu to Punakha

We will drive to the formal capital of Bhutan until 1955, Punakha. On the way, we will stop at Dochula Pass, a popular tourist spot that grants stunning 360-degree views of the Himalayas. Here, we have 108 Druk Wangyal Chortens build in the name of the Bhutanese soldiers killed in a 2003 battle with Assamese insurgents from India.

Also, visit Druk Wangyel Lhakhang build to commemorate 100 years of monarchy.

Punakha Dzong – Build at the junction of the Pho Chu and Mo Chu river by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel in 1637 to serve as the center of religious and administrative decision making.

Pho Chhu Suspension Bridge – The longest suspension bridge in Bhutan, 160 meters long gives spectacular views of Punakha Dzong and the Pho Chhu Valley.

Day 4
Punakha to Gangtey

We will join the locals to celebrate the festival. And visit Back-Necked Crane Information Centre to have an informative displays about cranes and the valley environment.

Hike along the Phobjikha valley.

Day 5
Punakha to Thimphu to Paro

The Thimphu Tashichho Dzong is a fortification and Buddhist cloister with a particular Bhutanese structural plan. Sitting aside the Wang Chhu (stream), it is the current seat of the Druk Gyalpo, the leader of the government.

Simtokha Dzong – Five miles from Thimphu, on an elevated edge, walk around the absolute first dzong, build in 1627 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. The Institute for Language and Cultural Studies is situated here at this point.

Centenary Farmers’ Market is where most of the locals gather on the banks of the river every weekend. Villagers from the nearby valley come here to sell agricultural products and handmade crafts.

Day 6
Paro

Taktsang Monastery (Tiger Nest): Your journey to Bhutan is incomplete if you miss the hiking to Taktsang Monastery. Located in the middle of the cliffy mountain, your pain will be washed as you reach the temple.

Kyichu Lhakhang – After lunch, we will visit the other oldest temple build along with Jambay Lhakhang in Bumthang.

Day 7
Paro to Haa

Paro Dzong – Visit the administrative center of the dzongkhag also known as Rinpung Dzong.

Ta Dzong – National museum

After Lunch drive to Haa valley through Chele La (3,988m). Night at local house in Haa.

Day 8
Haa to Paro

Visit temples and learn the living style of people there and in evening drive back to Paro.

Day 9
Depart from Paro
